When in St Emilion... wine not!

I'd already counted myself as really lucky to have visited one of my favourite wine areas of France during our trip - the Chateauneuf region, and had immensely enjoyed staying on a vineyard, however I think the few days we spent in the beautiful wine region of St Emilion may have topped this!

We drove across from the Dune de Pilat on the West Coast of France and having searched the Campercontact app had found what looked to be a simple free parking spot at the Chateau Arnaud de Jacquemeau vineyard, This camping field of soft green grass was surrounded by grape-laden vines, the grapes somewhere between green and purple as they ripened in the sun. The site was very peaceful, away from the traffic (except the odd tractor)! It also offered the most beautiful sunsets across the fields.

The six o'clock wine tasting must have been a well known about event as at about 17;55 each evening a few extra motorhomes and campervans would pull up and people jump out, armed with their own glass or mug, ready to gather round the wine barrel for a lesson in wine tasting and to sample some of the produce from the Chateau's vines. And it was good!

We also took time to cycle the few kilometres into the famous wine-making town of St Emilion where we wandered up and down the narrow and twisty cobbled streets before visiting inside the Monolithic church.

It really was a tranquil spot to dwell and spend some family time together.
